formwork steel prop

Are you worried about purchasing formwork props for your construction projects, and don't know which type of formwork props is more suitable for your project. Indeed, different types of formwork props are applicable to different scenarios, and the costs incurred are also different. The following article is to better help you choose formwork prop.

First of all, before purchasing a formwork prop, you need to understand what is formwork prop, as well as the composition and materials of a formwork prop.

What Is a Formwork Prop?

A formwork prop is a load-bearing element used to transfer the loads received during the pouring of structural concrete to the ground and support it until it is put into use.

The Composition of Formwork Prop

The formwork prop consists of two upper and lower support plates, two hollow cylinders that are easy to adjust, lock pins, nuts and handles. One of the two hollow cylinders is located inside and the other is located outside. The height of the support can be adjusted through the nuts.

The Material of Formwork Prop

The three main types of formwork prop are steel, aluminum and wood.

1.Steel Prop

Steel prop is the most common formwork prop, and the surface treatment includes painting, galvanizing, etc. Generally, steel props are divided into light duty steel props, medium duty steel props and heavy duty steel props according to their carrying capacity and working height.

Steel can determine a definite load capacity, has a long service life, and is a corrosion-resistant material (controls oxidation of the material).

2.Aluminum Prop

Aluminum prop is lighter than steel prop and has a shorter service life, which has higher requirements on the construction site. The aluminum prop has a higher load capacity and allows working at higher altitudes. They are used with formwork systems for single buildings and/or civil works.

3.Wooden Props

Wooden props are not allowed to be used in many countries at present. The material used in this kind of formwork prop is wood. The load-bearing capacity of wood is relatively poor, and the requirements for the environment are also high. It is very easy to rot and has a short service life. Probably only some of the poorer areas are still in use.

Choosing the right formwork props may seem easy, but as you can see, a very important analysis has to be done beforehand. Regardless, if you have any doubts, please contact your trusted supplier for advice!
