A base plate is a scaffolding component consisting of a flat, rigid steel plate with a central spigot (or pin), used to create a stable, level foundation. Its primary function is to evenly distribute the weight of the entire scaffolding structure onto the ground, preventing the uprights (standards) from sinking, shifting, or collapsing. Depending on the specific application, it serves to distribute loads, provide stability, or act as an installation connection point.

Base plates are typically installed at the bottom of scaffolding uprights. Load Distribution: The contact area at the bottom of a standard scaffolding upright is very small. If placed directly on the ground, it could easily sink into the soil or damage concrete surfaces. A flat base plate (typically 150mm x 150mm) distributes the downward pressure over a much larger contact area. Spigot: A solid or hollow metal tube welded to the center of the base plate; it inserts directly into the bottom of the scaffolding standard, securely anchoring it in place.
Fixing holes: Pre-drilled holes located at the corners of most base plates allow construction workers to secure the plate to the ground, timber sole boards, or base beams using bolts, thereby enhancing stability.
