What Is Scaffolding Plank？

Scaffolding plank is a temporary structure used to provide support during building construction, giving workers a place to stand and work. The most common scaffolding plank is wooden, but aluminum scaffolding planks are also used by some people.

There are three main types of Scaffolding plank: metal, aluminum and wood. Among the three different materials for scaffolding, metal scaffolding plank is the heaviest and most durable option, and it is also the most expensive. The material must have more than 6 rings per inch, have few surface and structural defects, and, in the case of Southern pine, have the grain slope one inch sideways for every 14 inches of length. Additionally, it must be inspected, graded, and labeled by a certified, independent third-party organization.

The two most commonly used types of wooden scaffolding plank are:

Solid sawn planks. Solid sawn scaffolding boards are typically made from Southern pine, but can also be made from Douglas fir or other similar species.

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) boards. LVL scaffolding plank are made from thin layers of wood and are bonded together using exterior grade adhesives.
