Base jacks and U-Head Jacks are collectively referred to as adjustable scaffolding screws and are part of an adjustable scaffolding system. Their primary function is to provide vertical support for the scaffolding system, allowing for height and level adjustment.

What is the differences between base jack and U-Head Jack?

1. Function and Location

Base Jack

During construction, base jacks are used at the bottom of the scaffolding system to provide a stable and level base for the entire structure, preventing it from sinking or tilting. They help distribute the load to the ground, maintaining the stability of the entire scaffolding structure.

U-Head Jack

U-Head Jacks are placed at the top of the scaffolding structure and connect to the vertical poles. They are compatible with scaffolding systems such as Ringlock, Cuplock, and Kwikstage, helping to distribute vertical loads. They can also be used with steel props to support beams or formwork systems during concrete pouring.

2. Design and Construction

Base Jack

Featuring a flat base plate, high-quality nuts, and threaded rods, the base jack allows for height adjustment by rotating the nuts to ensure a balanced scaffolding system when erecting on uneven ground.

U-Head Jack

Featuring a U-shaped opening on top, it can be used to secure formwork or formwork components, ensuring they are securely fixed in place and providing a stable connection point for the work platform. Available in fixed and adjustable styles, the unique U-shaped head design securely supports I-beams, wood panels, and steel beams.

3. Versatility and Load-Carrying Capacity

Base Jack

Base Jacks level scaffolding on uneven terrain and can support a variety of scaffolding systems with varying heights and load capacities. Constructed of heavy-duty steel, the base jack evenly distributes weight, withstands extreme loads, and helps prevent scaffolding collapse.

U-Head Jack

U-Head Jacks adjust the height of the formwork system to ensure a level formwork system. Adjustable in height based on beam thickness, the U-Head Jack evenly distributes vertical forces from the floor slab, beams, and columns throughout the scaffolding system. This is crucial for formwork stability in high-rise buildings.

4. Materials and Construction

Base Jack

Base Jacks are made of high-quality steel with an anti-corrosion coating to prevent rust. They are available in hollow and solid versions and can be welded or bolted to the scaffolding structure.

U-Head Jack

Usually made of steel, available in hot-rolled or cold-rolled finishes for increased strength and durability. They are available in solid and hollow versions.

5. Applications

Base Jack

Commonly used for building facades, maintenance projects, and industrial projects.

U-Head Jack

Primarily used for floor slab formwork support in high-rise buildings.

6. Cost and Availability

Base Jack

Base Jacks are generally less expensive than U-Head Jacks, have a simpler design, come in standard sizes, and are compatible with various scaffolding systems, making them economical.

U-Head Jack

The price of U-Head Jacks varies depending on the size, thickness, and type of steel. Due to the sophisticated design and additional structural support provided by the U-Head, the price is slightly higher.

7. Durability and Maintenance

Base Jack

Base Jacks require regular cleaning to remove accumulated dust, dirt, and rust. Anti-corrosion treatment ensures a long service life in outdoor conditions.

U-head Jack

U-Head Jacks are available with hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating for a longer service life. Proper maintenance is required to prevent rust and deformation.
