Acrow prop is a robust, adjustable steel support post typically used for temporary vertical load-bearing. Acrow props consist of two high-quality galvanized steel tubes—an inner tube and an outer tube—that telescope within each other. The inner tube features a top plate and the outer tube a base plate, creating flat, stable bearing surfaces at both ends. The outer tube is equipped with a pin and a collar handle, allowing the inner tube to be locked in place and the prop to be adjusted precisely to the required height. Known for their durability, safety, and ease of use—they can be easily installed by a single person—Acrow props are widely used in construction projects.
Check that the ground is stable and solid; Acrow props must be placed on solid concrete or a flat base plate to distribute the load weight.
Install the Acrow prop at the location specified by the engineer, ensuring the top plate aligns with the structure requiring support.
Extend the inner tube to the approximate required height. Secure the inner tube with the pin to prevent it from slipping. Rotate the adjustment collar to fine-tune the height, ensuring the acrow prop makes firm contact with the load and is locked in position. The acrow prop should fit snugly beneath the load to provide maximum stability.
Use a spirit level to ensure the prop is perfectly straight (vertical). Once vertical, secure the Acrow prop using a tripod stand.
Attach a "Strongboy" metal support tool to the top of the prop.
Rotate the collar downwards to lower the prop slightly until it is no longer in contact with the load. Remove the pin and slide the inner tube downwards.
Calculate the required number of acrow props and the load based on the project's total weight, including workers and equipment; the total load-bearing capacity of the acrow props should exceed the weight of the project.
Acrow props must be evenly distributed across the project area to share the load. This prevents any single acrow prop from bearing excessive weight, which could lead to bending, slipping, or collapse—situations that could seriously endanger the structure and the safety of workers.
Before installation, ensure the base is sufficiently stable; acrow props can be set up directly on a level concrete surface or on a base plate laid over soft ground.
Extending the acrow prop beyond its recommended length reduces its load-bearing capacity.
Acrow props can loosen over time and may require adjustment. Site personnel responsible for shoring must inspect the acrow props at least once a week. Any loose nuts or pins should be tightened, and any changes recorded. Regular inspections during use ensure the acrow props remain stable and secure.
Acrow props are tools used for temporary vertical support and are commonly employed in the following scenarios:
Demolishing walls to create new door or window openings can compromise the stability of load-bearing walls and their supporting structures. Builders install Acrow props to share the load and maintain structural integrity until the renovation is complete.
When pouring new concrete, Acrow props are used to support floor slabs and roofs. They hold the structure in place until the concrete has set and can support its own weight.
As with floor slabs and roofs, builders must support beams and lintels until they are set or the permanent support structure is installed. Acrow props fill the gap, providing temporary support until the elements are self-supporting.
During demolition or major structural alterations, workers may need to preserve specific structural elements while removing others. Acrow props stabilize these sections, preventing accidental collapse.
A:Acrow props typically come in five standard sizes; you can select the appropriate height and load-bearing capacity based on the area requiring support.
A:Acrow props are lightweight and can be installed by a single person; the threaded outer tube allows for height adjustment to suit the construction site, with precise adjustments made using the pin and handle.
A:Acrow props are reusable if stored properly; however, please note that they have a limited service life and cannot be used forever. They must be cleaned and stored correctly after each use and inspected for damage before being used again. Avoid using any props that are rusted, cracked, or bent.
A:Do not remove any Acrow props until the supported area is confirmed to be fully stable or the mortar has completely cured; typically, a waiting period of 48 hours is required before removal.
